We strive to create a seamless integration between light and architecture.

Integrated Light has extensive experience in delivering lighting projects across a wide range of architectural sectors from commercial, museums, galleries, historic, leisure, public realm, private residential and retail lighting.

We design and create bespoke lighting products and custom solutions for our clients and partners.

Lighting design that is not only environmentally, socially and economically responsible, yet also highly creative and perfectly detailed, can fundamentally enhance our built environment.

As a studio we are sensitive to the issues surrounding artificial light and its environmental impact on our world. Energy use/waste, light pollution, sky glow and over-lighting are all key aspects which are carefully considered during any project; helping our clients make smart, well informed, environmentally conscious decisions.

We provide creative, professional and innovative lighting design services.

How do we work?

For most architectural lighting projects we work on we follow The RIBA Plan of Work. This framework allows us to closely follow other design partners on the project and provides clear milestones to the Client in easy to understand stages. Some projects don’t always fit this approach and where necessary we tailor the design services proposed to suit the situation.

Stage 1

Preparation and Brief

Close-up of two vintage filament light bulbs with glowing filaments, against a dark background.

We discuss the aspirations, constraints and targets with the Client team and collectively form a lighting brief. This establishes guiding principles that can be consistently referenced and adhered to throughout the design process.

Stage 2

Concept Design

Modern indoor lobby with wooden curved seating and potted plants, colorful abstract artwork on the wall, and large windows with vibrant geometric shapes outside.

During Stage 2 we explore creative ideas, themes and intended approaches for the project. This is often a collaborative process with other disciplines. We present the concept proposals by way of various presentation techniques.

Stage 3

Developed Design

Ceiling with exposed brick wall, electrical conduits, metal cable trays, and industrial-style lighting fixtures.

A phase of more refined design development is reached post obtaining an agreed concept with the Client and Design Team. Concept ideas are developed into layout drawings, together with preliminary lighting equipment schedules and  lighting control information.

Stage 4

Technical Design

Ceiling with wooden grid panels and recessed lighting fixtures above a blue patterned curtain.

This stage involves the formalising of the agreed lighting scheme. Detailed technical drawings, general arrangements, lighting equipment and lighting control specifications are produced. This information is carefully coordinated with the rest of the design team.

Stage 5

Construction

Wooden slats with a curved edge, illuminated by lights at the base, on a wooden flooring.

At completion of the project we carry out the focussing, programming and scene-setting of all lighting equipment and control systems installed. We ensure the Client team is fully trained on all systems installed.

Stage 6

Completion

Interior view of a staircase with wooden steps, black railing, modern hanging pendant lights, and large glass windows showing trees and vehicles outside during evening.

We assist with project management, equipment procurement processes, coordination with contractors and responding to RFI’s. During the lighting installation phase we carry out on site reviews and provide snagging reports.

Bespoke

Design and Make

Where a specific lighting solution is needed for a project, Integrated Light Studio can also design, make and produce custom products.  Bespoke design solutions can really bring a lighting scheme to life and creates a sense of completeness in the overall design.

We have been fortunate enough to work on numerous projects that require bespoke design solutions, and can now provide this service in-house. Get in touch with us to learn more about how we can help.
